Limited Capacity filling up

The University of Pittsburgh and UPMC’s Lawrenceville Campus is a hub for basic scientific, clinical and translational research. Anchored by UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and the John G. Rangos Sr. Research Center, pediatric health clinicians and researchers cohabitate to generate research impacting clinical practice through policy development and commercialization. Pitt and UPMC’s pediatric health innovation epicenter in Lawrenceville has strong ties to the clinicians and researchers at the Oakland Campus and beyond. This panel will highlight some of the unique challenges faced in commercializing medical products targeted at “small” patient populations, discuss the recently awarded Pennsylvania Pediatric Device Consortium (PPDC) as a federally-funded means to address some of those challenges and shine a spotlight on Pitt and Children’s researchers, as well as partners from Industry, who are actively driving their innovations towards clinical and commercial impact. Team members from the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine and sciVelo-Innovation Institute will be on-hand to provide more information on this new funding mechanism, how researchers can engage the PPDC, and how community members can partner with it.
