Zariel Johnson, PhD, is currently a Program Manager – Technical at UPMC Enterprises, the innovation and commercialization arm of UPMC. In this role, Zariel leads the efforts of UPMC in the Pittsburgh Health Data Alliance (PHDA). The PHDA is a unique collaboration that brings together the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and UPMC to support university investigator-led research in digital health that have the potential to improve healthcare through commercial translation. The PHDA has supported more than 30 teams comprising researchers developing new methods in machine learning and data analytics, clinical and operational experts, and entrepreneurs. These activities have led to the formation of spinout companies, generation of intellectual property, and production of top-tier scientific publications. Dr. Johnson works closely with colleagues across the UPMC system, as well as with PHDA Centers at both of the participating Universities.
